So what most puts you off liking a music album? What factor most makes you want to stop an album playing and put on something else? What factor turns you away from an album to either come back to later or never again? What creates the biggest barrier and has you saying "I don't like the music here". Here are descriptions for the reasons listed to help you decide:

References to violence
When one puts on an album they expect peace and solace away from the real world. There was no music before but now there is and the world around you feels different because of it. Buts what's this...? Talk of war, death and mutilated bodies? The person singing sounds like they want to fight you? Listening to that guy tell you how he is going to put a chainsaw through his ex-girlfriend has you reaching for the off button.

References to sex
You consider yourself a well kept and upstanding citizen. There is a time and a place for intimacy and that is between you and your spouse with the lights out. But you could hardly it "intimacy" on this album. The singer is making many crude remarks to all manner of perverted acts. They were most likely touching themselves while the record button was on! This album is getting burned... and not onto an empty disc.

Contains too much swearing
This one is a simple one. The artist can't finish a song without saying a really naughty word. They may say string of different ones in row or even put one in the chorus to say it over and over again! How awful of them! You find yourself cringing each time one is spouted, turning the volume down slightly each time before putting it back up. Soon you have your fingers on the volume dial/button constantly hoping no one is hearing you listen to these bad words until it becomes too much and you become upset and have to turn it off.

Band/artist are mainstream
You are not listening to this album. Well you might but you know it is going to suck. This band/artist had gone big before releasing the lead single from this one and it was terrible song that went straight into the top 10. You listen to a few songs from this because you like their less well known and superior material (But seriously, check out what they recorded when they still had dignity! It's great stuff!)but you can't reach the end of this one as it sucks with its... mainsteamy... ness I suppose...

You don't like the music on it
You put on the music album and listened to some songs or the whole thing. While listening to it you thought "hmm... I don't like the music on this album" and when you were done you moved onto something else. The fact that it has music you don't like is what puts you off most from liking an album.

Recorded by terrible people
You put off by the people who recorded it. They are egotistical, they turn up late to concerts, they punch their fans, they killed someone, they killed Napster, they make crude jokes down the pub. Everything about these people has you not wanting to bother with their albums. If you do give an album a chance (borrowed or downloaded, they are not getting those dirty mittens on your money) you find it hard or impossible to like because it was recorded by them.

It's pop music
YOU ARE NOT LISTENING TO THIS ALBUM! This has been condemned as pop music by self appointed intellectuals and you are most certainly listening to them. What will they think of you if they heard you listening to this!? WHAT WILL THEY THINK OF YOU!? They migh... they will compare you to a woman or a kid for liking this music. Oh lord, they wouldn't know you were only listening to this for the first time!? Sometimes you are even turned away from artists that actually play instruments because they are too poppy and you are too intelligent to do anything but press the stop button. Alternatively, you could be a woman or kid who is drawn away from the album for fear some jerk would stereotype you for even a passing interest in the album.

It's pretentious
The people who recorded it are pretentious. They are insecure. You know they are. This is noise. This isn't music. This is for poseurs who claim there is something to "understand" but you won't fall for it, oh no no no... you never fall for it. You KNOW the artist is pretentious. You know pretentious when you hear it and you are drawn away from it so much you're practically running in the opposite direction. If you had brought the album on CD or vinyl, it is likely you smashed it with a hammer.

Political nonsense
You find it absolutely grinding to listen to bands/ music artists talk and sing about politics. Worst of all however is when they have no clue at all what they are talking about. In the lyrics they are spouting slogans they saw on T-shirts from some trendy upmarket clothes store, quoting random and obscure writers, using big long words, singing about issues way above their station (that you didn't want to know about anyway!) and generally preaching like some manic nutcase. You don't want to see their face or hear their words. Political nonsense is your poison.

this is bleeding over from the skype convo, but do people actually do this? I've never had sex with the lights out or even dimmed. On a similar note, do you wipe your ass sitting down or standing up?
