Can anyone help me with my problem? All my friends, my parents, my family, and etc. hate Pink Floyd Everyone except for me What's wrong with me? I have been shunned by everyone around. no one is talking to me. My family even locked me in the cellar without music...or food to stop my retaliation, but everytime I come out, I still love Pink Floyd. Can anyone help me? This has become worse than my porn addiction.

Laughing don't tell Magneta

but yeah, like what you like, tell 'em all it's your passion and damned if you're going to let them suppress your own musical taste for whatever they have against that particular band

Is it just me or did Happymeal rip this thread name off without giving the rightful person credit for the cool thread concept? I must confess however, that this thread is too cool not to exist!

I understand the difficulty of what you're going through and I just want you to know that you aren't alone. There are plenty of us that have succumbed to good music. However there is a way out. AM radio has some stuff that will have you listening to shitty music in no time!

I feel your censored. Join the club. It is lonely at the top.

You likely love Pink Floyd so much because they are a band that has taken time and care in learning and honing their craft. In understanding their instruments and the sounds they produce. In studying the crowds in the early days of the psych era to understand what gets people's attention in music (which is why Waters freaked out when they moved from intimate venues to stadium and the crowd behaviour switched from undivided attention to massive crowd mayhem - see The Wall album to learn more about Waters's freak out).

Pink Floyd experimented and tried and sometimes did stupid things and sometimes broke all the rules, pleasantly or unpleasantly, and eventually they came to an understanding of what really works together. They never expected the DSOTM to became as popular and iconic as it had. For them it was just the next logical step in their exploration and they expected ti to be just as much appreciated and just as much criticized as any of their previous work. But by then they had made enough exploration that they were able to drop the "too much" and just have the perfect does of everything (although in hindsight the main criticism the DSOTM gets nowadays is "On the Run" but it still lasted for 20 years and the maintsreaming or synthesizers and electronic music before it started sounding old).

When you compare Meddle or Obscured by Clouds to DSOTM objectively there is very little difference. All was there in those albums but Obscured by Clouds was held back by its nature of being a soundtrack album and Meddle was on the cusp of greatness but it still sounded slightly off, sounds a little too old, unproperly varnished. No longer an adlosecent, now a young man but still had one zit ont he chin and then bang! ... Gets to a new school, the last zit is gone, new wardrobe, and all the learnings of past sins are integrated but no longer visible and there you are, no longer the awkward teenager but the perfect charming young man. Of course it helped that Pink Floyd although playing music to an acid/LSD high crowd themselves experimented with drugs but much -much less- then their myth lets one believe (except for poor old Syd of course) so they were not necessarily "sober" but as opposed to many others they were fully conscious of what was happening.

It is hard to explain to somebody who thinks of Sushi as uncooked fish that it is actually one of the most tasteful and healthy delicacy in the world or to explain to somebody who likes his steak well done with spicy BBQ sauce on top that a rare steak with blue cheese sauce is actually better "cuisine" because it is the sort of thing you either get or you don't.

Statistically people, average is where most people are, that is what makes it average by definition. So if you end up being one of the weird ones that likes something when it is above average. it is hard to understand -not so much why people go for average, it is easier to get and more affordable- but why people actually do not even realize that they are missing out.

I have a reproduction of a Dali on my wall and to a purist art collector that would be a crime to have that in their house, you go for a fake? Well, while I recognize that the original of the poster I have on my wall is likely better than the poster, I have the choice between bare walls of the poster because the original is out of my purchasing capacities. But when it comes to music, I go for the real thing. why would I listen to some eighties band that used a drum machine when there are so many good bands using real drummers knowing what they know what they are doing out there. Well to the person who always listens to average, Pink Floyd only sound "out of the norm" and tougher to understand so why would I bother with Sushi when battered fish already taste like the French Fries which make up the foundation of my nutrition pyramid.

Well, once you have really tasted better than average, even if only just once, then going back to bland and average just seems silly to do - I will not eat high cuisine everyday because I cannot afford it, but every time I have an "everyday average meal", I know that this is not the best, this meal satisfies, but it will not end up in my top 100 BEA chart.

Anyway, all I meant to say is, I love Pink Floyd too man!
