When listening to an album where I don't have the song titles memorized, I have this annoying compulsion to check each song title as the song begins (even while driving). If I forget the name over the course of the song, I have to look again. I do this with every single song until I have them memorized. Does anyone else do this or am I just crazy? It bugs the hell out of me.

Also, since this might be lame for a whole topic, can you name a song where the title has altered your feelings about it?

I've always found the song Mayonaise by the Smashing Pumpkins to be absolutely beautiful, but I think it's such an ugly song title that it knocks it down just the slightest bit for me. In contrast, song titles like "Possum Kingdom", and "Fake Tales Of San Francisco" make already great songs just a little bit better. I know the music is the same regardless, but it's just a small part of the whole package, much like an album title or cover, and sometimes it creeps into my feelings about a song.

I definitely can see this becoming a topic worth discussing. Especially since I do the exact same thing! Idk what it is. I try to know as much as possible about the songs and albums since I think the artists put the effort in giving titles for a reason. I don't think I'd be so concerned if they were titled Suites 1-10.

I don't think a title has ever changed what I think about a song but they can usually be pretty memorable if they resemble the sound of the song. For examples, Deep Purple's Child in Time is an epic song and the title itself just has an epic sound to it... Child in Time.

Song titles are not important to me. They are titles, not music.

I only look at the title if I like the song a lot.

If you're someone who likes to discuss music as much as I (and probably most of us here) do, then it can't hurt to know song titles which can come in handy so you can make references to a specific track.

there is nothing wrong with knowing the song titles, there is something wrong with having your opinion of the song changed in anyway by the name of the song. i deal with this every day because i make the best gaming videos in the world and little bitches get mad because i don't name them properly.

Like I said, I know it doesn't change the music itself, but it still is a part of the overall package you get in an album. Maybe I'm in the minority, but song titles hold at least some sort of significance when I listen to an album, even if it's minuscule. Sorry for being one of those people Confused .
