What artists and bands do you really like that have made good, enjoyable albums, but you don't think have necessarily made a "best ever" classic album? (might not be on your chart, but you still think it's a classic) Here's my list:

Neko Case
Iron and Wine
Jonathan Richman (solo career and second Modern Lovers incarnation)
The Buzzcocks
Simon and Garfunkel (for me, their compilations were always better than their individual albums)
Elliott Smith
Built to Spill
Calexico
The Pretenders
Billie Holiday (of course, this was before the album era)
Nina Simone
Beck (Mutations comes close, but for me, all his albums are hit and miss)
The Police
Madness
Yo La Tengo
The Posies
The Roots
Blackalicious
Outkast
Steve Earle
Fountains of Wayne
Modest Mouse (I'm sorry. The Moon and Antarctica is good, but not a classic album to my ears)
Death Cab for Cutie

Who's on your list?

Yeah Yeah Yeahs (first two albums really enjoyable, but I woild feel guilty putting them in front of others for some reason; love her voice and the drummer)

White Stripes (Both Elephant and Icky Thump were really close for me but again for some reason I don't consider either a truly solid album)

Agent Orange (i just added it to BestEverAlbums, but since I joined the 20 album revolution I kicked it off: not perfect but really refreshing amongst the other lesser known hardcore bands)

Bad Brains (all their stuff is really great, for hardcore)

Albums like Badmotorfinger, Bleach, and Superfuzzbigmuff (really good albums, you can really hear the potential of the respective artists on these albums but I think they were undermined by either poor funding, time restraints, or low production)

The post above is interesting but it isn't what I'm looking for. Just to reclarify, what this list should be is artists you really like who haven't made all-time great albums. Now, an artist/band may have made a classic album that didn't make your top 50. It doesn't matter. If you think objectively that they ever made a classic album, they should not be on this list.

This isn't an album list, it's an artist/ band list. Perhaps I should have put this thread in the lounge section? Here's a few others that I like and I think have made enjoyable albums, but not quite best ever:

The Psychedelic Furs (Talk Talk Talk comes close)
Supergrass
Robyn Hitchcock

Dude, no, you're not getting it. He means pick a band that you may like, maybe even love, but that you can't honestly say has made an album that could be considered one of the best of all time.

I'll throw a couple out:

Of Montreal
Anthrax
Slayer
The Allman Brothers Band
Blue Cheer
Van Der Graaf Generator

Every artist you list has an album in the BestEverAlbums data base. In other words, they released one of the greatest music albums of all time. I can honestly say that all the artists I like have released at least one album that could be considered one of best of all time.

I think this has to be a joke.
