Lyrics are really corny. That being said, I love the operatic rock thing going on here. And Meat Loaf has an awesome powerful voice. The huge sound reminds me a lot of Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run.

First album I ever bought! 13 years old at the time! One of the best album covers of all time. And despite the large helpings of cheese this has its moments. I still have a soft spot for Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth.

Most great rock n' rollers from the first 30 years or so of it did some cheesy shit. Meat Loaf (or was it Jim Steinman?)'s lyrics set a new standard in cheese, and that is a major accomplishment, especially during the 70's! On the other hand, it's almost like Bat Out Of Hell was so fantastically overblown and overdramatic that it kind of spoiled the practice of being overblown and overdramatic in rock for a few years. Although I guess that didn't stop Journey from trying...

Need to finish it first, but I think it's pretty good(sound wise). The lyrics are basically your standard rock lyrics for the time period. It definitely deserves more than a 69. Why is it rated so low when plenty of albums that have the same style and sound are rated higher?
