As someone who's never even listened to Wowee Zowee, I am perplexed at this album.

I've always felt Terror Twilight is underrated and actually prefer it to this. Granted, Pavement were the best band of the 90s imo, so really, ranking first to worst for a band with what I consider a flawless discography feels kind of points. But yeah, Shady Lane is great.

The least great Pavement album, but still better than most artists ever manage. It's between them and the Lips for best 90s band.

Definitely. Never thought much of this album. Stops Pavement from having even a near-perfect discography.

Really, from a performance and production standpoint Pavement's best album by far. Don't understand the comments to the contrary at all, except to say some people seem to think things have to be eclectic to be good. This album was a good mix of Pavement's all over the place style and more mainstream polish on the finished product.
Probably not my favorite Pavement album still...but I'd have to say objectively it was their best. Definitely the most listenable. _________________ <(: @ >

I don't know what to think about the comment above mine. Very strange.
I don't like Wowee Zowee very much, but this one is really good. Not as much as the first two, but still, very good.
