|
So what are the big old fart comebacks of 2013? I'm addressing artists or bands where the primary members are 45+ that haven't had an album critically acclaimed in a looooong time or their latest album is their best in a looooooooooooong time, whether that was because of a stretch average/substandard output or an absence from music.
The three that come to my mind are: david bowie, paul mccartney, nine inch nails and pet shop boys.
I'm sure a bunch of people would put my bloody valentine out there as well.
Any others? _________________ fav artists NOW | ALL-TIME favs | i listen 2 more music than u so u don't have 2!

Sarah Brightman's Dreamchaser album got great reviews.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamchaser Check the "Critical reception" section.
Many consider this album to be her best work. I like the album, but it focuses too heavily on reverb in the first half, and not enough on Sarah. People want a Sarah Brightman album for Sarah's vocals, and that's not the major part of the album. I was very impressed with the second half for relying on a perfect balance of focus between Sarah, the backing vocalists, the reverb, and the instruments. There's also a concept revolving around space. The album's on of my top ten for the year, and I'll give it a relisten soon.

I guess the latest Daft Punk could be called a comeback. I love it anyway.

Colored Sands by Gorguts
It was their first album in 12 years or something, and its comes scarily close to matching the quality of their 1998 masterwork Obscura

Oops. I initially thought of three then pet shop boys came to mind.
The Flaming Lips don't count as they had a critically-acclaimed album last time out.
Daft Punk doesn't count because the members are under 45 years of age.
Ghostface Killah doesn't count because he's < 45 years of age AND i didn't see any acclaim for his new one.
I haven't seen wide acclaim for the yo la tengo album either.
Many others i'm unfamiliar or less familiar with. _________________ fav artists NOW | ALL-TIME favs | i listen 2 more music than u so u don't have 2!

A friend of mine has like the biggest ass in the world and also likes the new Yo La Tengo. That's wide acclaim for you right there.

Just because you didn't see any acclaim doesn't mean there wasn't any.
