I stopped watching the Oscars a few years ago. I'm tired of the Academy and the ridiculous snubs.

Also, as far as the thug life. None of the above. My mommy chose it for me.

So you think the Academy makes good nominations?

For the most part, yes. They're certainly leagues better than the GRAMMYs in that respect.

I mean, sure, I'd love to have seen Moonrise Kingdom or Cosmopolis with more nominations, but hey.

I haven't seen Holy Motors yet, but if Jhereko and all my other moviedork friends are correct, it is very much in need of some noms.

Generally there is a good reason they are still relevant after 80something years and not a joke like the grammys. So, yes, even if I only agree with them completely about 50% of the time I think they do give "good" nominations most of the time.

It's a body of 6000 people voting on categories that most of the time only have 5 nominees (and the biggest up to 10). I think 6000 is a pretty good sample and they're the industry - generally, they know they're shit.

Out of those 9 nominated for best picture this year I've seen 7 (and...a half). Of those 7, 4 get into my top 10 of the year so in a year with probably at least 200 eligible films...I think that's pretty good. Even if my top 2 films of the year aren't in there and even if one of them that was nominated (Argo) I thought was average at best, the academy aren't there to replicate my or your taste.

Agreed. The Oscars have major snubs, but it's not a complete joke like the Grammy's, imo.
