- Post subject: Good artists that aren't mentioned often/are overshadowed
|
Basically, I'm making this thread about artists that are generally thought of as good, but don't get mentioned as often as some of their peers or are overshadowed. O don't mean unknown artists, they could be legends, but just aren't mentioned in comparison to let's say the beatles or bands that are always talked about.
My list:
Stevie Wonder
Chuck Berry
B.B. King
Husker Du
At The drive in
etc.
I guess as a bonus topic, why are these guys overshadowed?

The Velvet Underground (except on this site. They get a lot of attention here)
Jeff Beck
Frank Zappa
Grateful Dead
I guess a lot of times these artists get overshadowed because even though they are very highly thought of and respected, maybe there just aren't that many people anymore that actually listen to them enough to discuss them.

Stevie Wonder isn't underrated. He gets loads of acclaim, and his 80s shite doesn't deserve any praise (while his 60s and 70s work deserves plenty).
How about Sly and the Family Stone instead? _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.

Sarah Brightman. I know that's COMPLETELY different from rock, but no one said this thread was rock only. I try talking to people about Brightman, but they have NO idea who she is.
And, on BEA, Cher. Only 3 Cher albums are on BEA. On my comment for her album "Believe," I stated that it shocked me that I had to add Cher's album that sold 20,000,000 copies.

Lol I love your comment on that album. "Good pop album with some of the best music by the woman who makes aging look good."

Pixies, Robert Johnson, and Chuck Berry are horrendously underrated. I realize Pixies get a lot of love on this site, but they're seldom mentioned elsewhere.
