It's not a question, I think it's plain to see/hear for all. It's been dead for a couple of years but rockists are still in denial. Hip-Hop, Electronica, R&B and Pop are thriving. It's no surprise that those who say "Modern music is bad" are rock fans because: Rock is dead. Even so called "saviours" of Rock are turning to other genres for help because: rock is dead. The old farts who used to make okay Rock records (Dylan, Springsteen, Rush etc) are now releasing abysmal albums all because: Rock is dead.

When Paul Weller starts trying to incorporate 'electronic influences' into an album, you know rock is dead.

Art can't "die".

Unless you're looking at it like you look at fashion. "Ugh this is so 1978"

rock is alive and well. Yes electronic music is out there, but it is like saying classical music or what people call "art music" since classical is actually referring to a specific time in "art music" is dead. Every major and minor city in the world has a concert hall dedicated to what most people would call "classical music", but is it dead... far from it.

"Rock" music is also a very broad term. There is a huge movement in hardcore, indie, stoner rock that is still very much alive and well.

If you are talking about the mainstream... Coldplay and Muse, I would consider a form of "rock" and they are still selling platinum records.... dead? I don't think so....

Now what is influencing culture the most right now... I would agree it is mostly hip-hop, electronic music, etc. But to say rock is dead is a little to broad to be accepted as truth. As a college "girl", you should realize there are no definitives, unless it can universally be accepted, which is impossible.

no, of course not. is this even serious?

granted my favorite records from the past two years are not rock albums, but to make sweeping generalizations about something a huge as a musical genre is silly. particularly a beginning and an end, which are never clear at the time.
