Man I love this album, at one point it was in my top 10, but not anymore. The Strokes have never topped this.
Good album

I really wasn't that familiar with The Strokes before listening to this, so I wasn't expecting much, but man, was it a surprise! If I had to desribe that album in three words, those would be "shitload of fun". The two opening songs are pretty good, the riff of the title track somewhat reminded me of Where Is My Mind, The Modern Age gives all the reasons why these guys are being compared to The Velvet Underground, but when Soma begins, this is really when it kicks in for good! Especially the trio of Last Nite (dat guitar solo...), Hard To Explain and New York City Cops is excellent. True, lyrically, while honest and heartfelt, it's not something groundbreaking, but it's obvious that what the dudes were aiming at was rocking it hard. And they did it so well that they actually brought garage back to the game! 100% enjoyment-not totally perfect, but somewhat close.

Except my blurb ends with "Amazing album". Sometimes I wonder whether this album was actually made by the Stokes based on their future albums...
New York City Cops, Is This It & Take It Or Leave it are my favourites. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

I only recently listened to this for the first time based on how well it's liked around here. I enjoyed it and it was a lot of fun but I think it's a little overrated.

Perfect album, not a single track that's even below great. Contains several stretches of absolute perfection and is one of the best rock albums ever made. I actually stand in a strange camp of people who like every Strokes album to some degree, but this one is the clear best.
