Just out of interest what famous bands/artists come from where you come from, like the same city/county etc?
One half of Tears For Fears (Curt Smith) went to my secondary school. The Propellerheads also come from Bath.
Bath is a 10 minute trainride to Bristol where I spent a lot of time as a kid and still do now. The home of trip hop and the likes of Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky.
Also I know that Van Morrison and Midge Ure both live in Bath, but they didn't come from here, clutching at straws now...
Somerset and the South West are not exactly hotbeds of music but what about where you come from? _________________ Shut up mate you're boring!

Ah well... I come from the land of Nana Mouskouri and Demis Rousos
On a more positive note, Vangelis comes from the same place.
And so does Hadjidakis (look him up)
And a lot of interesting stuff you probably haven't heard before

Yeah... when you are from Manchester this is a little on the easy side as there is SO much to choose from
So here is a random selection:
Elbow
Joy Division
Happy Mondays
Stone Roses
The Smiths
The Buzzcocks
The Chameleons
Dutch Uncles
The Ting Tings
Van Der Graaf Generator
New Order
World of Twist
Inspiral Carpets
The Verve
Simply Red
Take That
Magazine
The Railway Children
Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders (my dad went to school with Wayne )
The Fall
Freddie and the Dreamers
The Chemical Brothers
The Charlatans
Herman's Hermits
James
Doves
Badly Drawn Boy
The Bee Gees (just for Harkan )
And loads more... It is not quite so easy for my elected home of New Zealand, but will give that some thought too.

That's it really. According to the Irish Charts REM are also from Dublin but I have my doubts.
