Well, to be fair, you could call Dinosaur Jr. grunge and you wouldn't be too far out of the ball park. They're close enough that calling them grunge isn't too bad, though obviously they fit into other genres much better.

Musically maybe, but timeline wise they come before the whole "Seattle Grunge Movement"

Also I'm just going to say again that I love Dinosaur Jr more than any grunge band.

Onto the shoegaze topic. Shoegaze, if I may be unchained, is a bunch of pointless echoes drowning out the actual music. I know I'm going to get a lotta screams for saying that, but I've heard Loveless twice and I can't find the appeal, or why there are so many charts on this site with Loveless in the top 10. I've also heard Psychocandy which is noise pop.

youve heard 2 shoegaze albums but sure make another sweeping generalization on the whole genre. id love to hear your opinions on black metal or post punk. all you really need to hear is one joy division song once and youll know all about it

If Joy Division is the best of post-punk, I feel comfortable saying that post-punk is a completely awful genre.

Trust me, they are no where near the best. Joy Division is horrid.

because just like shoegaze and loveless, all post punk bands sound exactly like joy division and delving deeper into either genre is pretty much a waste of time

Thanks for the recommendations! I will! That's why I said "if" they were the best, which I refuse to believe because Joy Division can't be the best of anything, since they are so bad.

I would actually recommend you look at the bands nominated for the Post Punk/New Wave tourney, and if anything seems interesting to you, try them out.

Them being said I love Joy Division, they are just a polarizing band.

I'd highly recommend Affinità-Divergenze fra il Compagno Togliatti e Noi – Del Conseguimento della Maggiore Età by CCCP Fedeli alla linea as far as post - punk goes (I completely forgot about this album until this came up). Some very nice stuff.

You can find the album on groovershark (though you'll have to copy/paste the album's name into the search bar as the artist's page doesn't have the correct one).
