- Post subject: What's the WORST concert you ever attended?
|
Not trying to bring the room down, but I'm curious: which concert ranks lowest in your experience? It could have been the performer, the venue, the crowd, your date...whatever. But what was the #1 concert that left you saying, "Well, that sucked?"
For me, it was an Eric Clapton show in the late 80's. He was touring in support of his "Crossroads" boxed set and I went with a bunch of friends to see him at the (then) Capitol Center in Maryland. He put on a listless, uninspired performance that was shocking in both its laziness and its brevity. At one point, his stellar bass player, Nathan East, launched into an exhilarating solo that embarrassed Clapton into playing his next solo with something resembling energy, but it was the only sign of life the man showed all evening. Just past the sixty-minute mark, he launched into the opening riff of "Layla," and I swear you could see the entire floor of the arena checking their watches in disbelief. He suffered his final indignity during the encore, when guest guitarist Mark Knopfler led the band through "Money for Nothing" and drew the biggest ovation of the night.

Come to think of it, I've seen Elvis Costello twice and he annoyed the crap out of me both times. Maybe I've got a problem with performers with those initials.

Flying Lotus. I even left early. To be fair, my distaste with electronic music rooted in its culture rather than the music itself. I can't stand to be around all those little "raver" types. I also feel like punching all the dudes in the face because you can tell they don't give a shit about the music and they're just drooling because they're there in hopes of getting a piece of ass. Okay sorry for that little rant. I just figured this was the right time for it. _________________

Christopher Owens, his first solo show. I knew him from Girls, whom I love, and he was playing his first ever solo show, he was going to play his debut album in full. Honestly, it was so cheesy I was cringing the whole time, and the whole show barely lasted an hour.

yeah his new album is pretty meh. very cloying.
Actually, my worst concert might be beach house. They're just not a great "live" band, plus the people I went with clearly did NOT like beach house, which was a buzzkill. Plus I was honestly way too high to fully appreciate it... _________________ My top songs of the 2010s

Hm, well sorry you didn't like it. My cousin saw him open for Animal Collective and he said Flylo played a sweet set.
