Probably my favourite metal album of any kind. Sounds like it's slowly tearing itself to shreds. Also, there's an ambient interlude as icing on the festering obsidian cake.

This album was my BEA Secret Santa gift. I don't think my review ever got published though.
Here it is :
Quote: | Burzum - Filosofem (1996) = atmospheric black metal from Norway
A stream of consciousness review :
Intense Echoes Growl
Night Darkness Falls
Dizzy Chase Kick Slides
Relentless Pain Tears Lost
Space Drops Desolate
Waiting for the Cenobites
Wet Warehouse Zombies
In summary :
Burzum deliver the "black" and the "metal" for an intense start to the album.
Unfortunately, they feel the need to expand the "atmospheric" vibe on a 25 minutes ambient track (!) I like ambient, but the track breaks the pacing of the album, leading it to a dead end instead of breaking into the dark void.

But who gave it to you Cellar
But this is great great stuff. One of the most haunting albums ever made. Personally i think the ambient track is well timed and im pretty ok with it being 25 minutes. And then it ends with a crushing emotional finish.
And side story, once i stumbled into a forest somehow while i was under the influence. It was during a huge storm and i think i spent like 3 hours trying to find my way out. I dont really remember all of it but i eventually found a cabin and got someone to pick me up. But this album reminds me of that night for some reason.

I'm trying to replicate Vikernes' guitar sound. Probably the grimmest guitar tone I've heard, though I haven't delved much into black metal yet. Jesu død is some of the best music to ever come out of that instrument
