I know, I know. They got me again. I can't help it.
They pretty much make these intentionally aggravating on purpose, but I can't keep away.
Also, now with this list and the previous top 500 songs list, I guess Aretha Franklin is the greatest recording artist of all time? I guess that at least means they're consistent, because the artist with the number one song is also the greatest singer of all time.

There's plenty to criticize about this list, but Aretha Franklin makes so much sense at #1. She's the Queen of Soul for a reason, as well as a transcendently great gospel singer. _________________ Add me on RYM

Oh for sure, no problem with her at number 1. Just an observation.
All I wanted to see was Elizabeth Fraser on the list, but apparently that couldn't happen.

You'd be surprised how much Canadian media is covering this list
Normally stuff like this doesn't make a blip, but this time around the Canucks are fuming.
I'm going to be a bit of a buzzkill here— and obviously it's nothing against you Chief, or any disrespect to you bringing it up— but I legit don't care.
It's a messy list, with some great artists in the mix. I mean... that's all.
I'm shocked at how offended people are at it.
Collectively, there's something here to make everyone mad. It'll get clicks.
Being said— I saw Aretha live in 2016, and she was still doing things nobody else could touch. Hearing her perform Respect was a spectacle of course, but what I remember most was this 20-25 minute semi-experimental medley she did mid-show backdropped by snippets of Raging Bull. Absolutely unexpected out-of-body stuff. Felt like I'd left.

You're being way too kind. Without Liz Fraser, it's not a "Best 200 Singers of All Time" list, it's just a "here's 200 random famous people we know of who sing" list.

Weirdly, it’s generally more fun to listen to albums through amazon’s shuffle mode than through a full subscription to a streaming service. The selections tend to be really good and contextualise the album in a cool way. Did they mean to make it this good? I mean, there is no way I am paying more for amazon unlimited at this point
