Rolling your eyes isn't a rebuttal. Explain to me what's so good about Chuck D as a lyricist. If you listen closely you'll hear some very basic rhyme patterns and a lot of throwaway rhymes just to fill in space or finish off the verse-- a lot of "check it out" "here we go" "come on" "yeah y'all", ending lines with "yo". I think that's lazy lyricism. And I can't think of many instances when he applies any interesting poetic devices.
And while the political messages may have been shocking and influential and controversial back then, I find most of them to be platitudinous or overwhelmingly hypocritical.
Did I post that after you said that six-year-old kids couldn't reason? Or was that the time that Purple asked for dance-punk recommendations and you thought it may be helpful to mention Whitney Houston?
Please leave the thread if you have nothing to add. Just leave the boards, really. I haven't actually seen you discuss music. I'm not sure you've reached the "age of reason" at which a human can comprehend the sounds that the reasoning human beings call "music".
I didn't say I had nothing more to add only that your line of thinking didn't deserve any more effort than that. I'm sure you're incredibibly down with the black experience and you're the best judge of what Chuck D should be feeling or what he raps about. _________________ To each his reach but if I don't cop it ain't mine to have - George Clinton
