I love a lot of Australian bands. Nick Cave, Avalanches, Dirty Three, The Drones, Crime & The City Solution, but had to vote for Canada on the basis of Neil Young, Godspeed, Broken Social Scene, The Acorn. It was a really tight decision, despite the obvious imbalance of the results here.

If I were to make music, one of my many concrete influences (just sounds that have really stuck with me) would be that of a guapo. Banging on a harp soundboard as it's playing for percussion... genius.

I'm not familiar with the guapo, but we might just have a different name for it here. I think I know what sound you mean, however. A harp with slightly twangy music-boxy sounds, perhaps?
Anyways, I'll create a thread so as to not derail this one.
