Last Radiohead album I've never listened to. I expect it to be not very good, though, so I'm not in a hurry.

Hello everybody. This is my first forum post! Yay!
I must say that I think that Radiohead was really daring with this album by stepping away from their usual pop format. This is not an album that is meant to appeal to the masses, unlike their previous albums. I personally love almost every song on here. This is a top Radiohead album for me. Separator is one of my favorite songs.

Pretty solid and enjoyable release, seems to receive some kind of revaluation after the initial backlash it got back in 2011. I remember listening to this for the first time-the opening of Bloom didn't inspire me at all and I was almost sure I would dislike it as much as everyone, but the way the songs develop (with a very Enoesque manner) including the opener give them justice. Probably the only tracks I don't care for at all are Morning Mr. Magpie and the incredibly dull Feral, the rest ranges from good to excellent (especially Codex which ranks up there with Radiohead's finest efforts, I also have a soft spot for Separator). A theory of mine that could explain the hatred surrounding this release is that it focuses mostly on Yorke's vocals and less on the instrumentation, as rich as it is, to produce results very similar to their electronic era of Kid A/Amnesiac (Lotus Flower is probably the most obvious example). I also enjoy the relatively short length of the record; it doesn't feel forced and flows well. That said, it can be really repetitive at parts and it really doesn't give the impression of being a step forward in their sound (unlike the wonderful maturation of their mixture of personal talent and various influences that characterized both Hail To The Thief and In Rainbows); also, it's definitely not as memorable as the pinnacle of their catalogue. Probably on a tie with Amnesiac as their weakest release (yes, I still have not listened to Pablo Honey), which means it's very good.

I was expecting more hating here. I've always liked this record. I don't disagree that it isn't their best work, but it's still good music. I, too, am glad to see that people seem to have given this a much deserved second chance. _________________ The Swizz
