That's religion, brah, not history. Back in my old ancient civ class we barely even touched on Aristotle or Plato. Why not? They were highly influential thinkers, weren't they? Well, because that's more relevant to the subject of philosophy. Jesus falls under the realm of religion and spirituality - oh, but unlike Aristotle or Plato:
- Jesus wasn't all that well known within the time period in which he lived
- His records were written YEARS after his death, and even after THAT most of it has been changed and edited, so we don't even know what the fuck Jesus actually said in the first place (Plato was smart enough to actually write his shit down HIMSELF)
- Plato and Aristotle taught much more in-depth and thought provoking messages than Jesus ever did _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.

Unless you're Christian, Jesus really isn't important. There are a lot of children in the public school system who aren't Christian. Jesus is hardly relevant to them, why would you preach to them about him? And the Christian kids? They can go learn about Jesus in church.
Not to mention, if we ACTUALLY taught kids about Jesus, if we taught them the FACTS and what we KNOW about Jesus, I think people like you'd be MUCH more upset.[/list] _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.

Not true, even if you are an atheist, religion and the founders have enormous effect upon you. We shouldn't dumb down our schools to teach only the common core. But consider the number of followers:
Christianity 2,000,000,000–2,200,000,000
Islam 1,300,000,000–1,650,000,000
Hinduism 828,000,000–1,000,000,000
Buddhism 400,000,000–500,000,000
What is wrong is having the majority kowtow to the minority. Atheist should repect the right of others to freedom of religion as believers tolerate your right to the null set. _________________ Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by RFNAPLES

I'm trying to respect the right of others to their freedom of religion. All I'm saying is that religion doesn't belong in the state. People are free to celebrate Christmas however the fuck they want and go around telling everyone how much they love Jesus - the STATE, however, being non-religious, cannot. This includes public schools.
If Jesus were to be taught in schools, we'd have to teach:
- that Jesus was one of SEVERAL persons during the Roman occupation of Jerusalem who claimed to be the messiah, and he wasn't even the most popular among them at the time
- that the scripture was written years after Jesus' death and is mostly inaccurate, as proven by the fact that even the gospels themselves do not agree with one another
- that his divinity was, for the most part, decided upon at the Council of Nicea
- that he probably wasn't caucasian as he is often depicted in religious works and art
And this would create an ever bigger religious shitstorm than the current one, and I'm quite certain this wouldn't make you any happier, either. _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.
