My apologies if the topic exists somewhere else (I couldn't find it). I suggest we post here the songs that seem to us to bear more than just a passing resemblance... from obvious inspiration to plagiarism, through pure chance maybe ?

For instance :

(click on "Beautiful John" in the playlist)

and this :

Am I the only one to think there is a little bit more than a slight sound-a-like atmosphere ?

I can't help sharing this one, for all of you Radiohead lovers who think their favourite band is the most original to have come out in the last 20 years :

I can hear the influence Aphex Twin and others have had on Radiohead and especially when you listen to Thom Yorke's solo album. On Aphex Twin, any album of theirs you would recommend?

There was http://www.besteveralbums.com/phpBB2/vi....php?t=542 but it got derailed. Anyway, the similarities between these songs have always been striking. I'm surprised I haven't really heard anyone mention it.

And I think the melody of the verses are similar in here. PJ Harvey seems to wear her influences on her sleeves.

So that's why I have a thing for PJ Harvey. But really, she's the sexiest musician since Iggy Pop.

And, didn't Murmer come out before any MSP stuff, so the MSP copied R.E.M.?

Anyway:

Stolen Riff: Talking Heads "I'm Not in Love"-- Minutemen "Nothing Indeed"

Drum Intros: Black Flag: "Three Nights" & "Scream" Black Sabbath "Iron Man" just keeping time with the bass, but it was so iconic of BS

Pretty Similar to me: Velvet Underground "Murder Mystery" -- Gang of Four "Anthrax"

intro to Interpol's "Say Hello to the Angels" sounds like a riff the Pixies forgot to record, mostly like "Break My Body"

The Modern Lovers "Roadrunner"-- Velvet Underground "Sister Ray" (other way around)

Sigur Ros' Agaetis Byrjun reminds me of Loveless every time

I'm pretty sure an Outlaw was being facetious.

Great rundown, personally I've found that I've listened to Selected Ambient Works Vol 2 the most...top 13 most played on my Itunes are all from that album, but it's probably not the best starting point. I would completely agree with the list if Hangable Autobulb and RDJ album were switched, Laughable Butane Bob may be my favorite RDJ track. I would also include Classics on the list of must own. I'm not sure if its a collection or what, but it's the only place I have Digeridoo on, and damn that track is epic...other great RDJ albums by Mike and Rich and The Tuss
