Wow, weird to see one of these where I've never heard of the band, the album, or any of the songs. Judging by what y'all are saying, though, I'll be looking this up shortly ...

I actually really like this album. It's dope. I'm not usually one for mopey indie rock (at least, I don't think I am), but this album just really hits me. The emotion on display here feels real and sincere. Definitely one of my favourite guitar-based records of the last five years.

This is way high up on my charts. To me, this is a masterpiece of a record. Is this miserable? Yes, but it never feels indulgent or overwrought. Each song, even "Prologue" and "Thirteen" are kind of perfect. Hospice is an album that I've been able to put on, and simply get sucked into the narrative. It never ceases to amaze me the fluidity and sheer brilliance Peter Silberman brought to this record, because it really is something to behold.

As for "Bear," I'm in the camp that doesn't quite believe that it's about abortion. The album is, in my opinion, far too consistent to suddenly introduce such an element. The way I see it, this guy is afraid that this relationship, which is built around emotionally unstable circumstances, will actually kill him and consume his life, and it'll more or less be her fault. They'll be, or are, too old to be anything other than stuck with each other. Now, that's not the best interpretation, but that's the best I can convey at the moment.

Track picks
2. Kettering
5. Bear
7. Two
9. Wake
10. Epilogue

Hate to say it but I agree. I actually usually like sappy, overdramatic, sad music (Bon Iver, Civil Twilight's first album, some Fleet Foxes, some Bright Eyes, some Eliott Smith, etc) but this really fell flat for me. Gave up after Track 4 and just skimmed to the middle of each of the next songs. It's like a bad attempt at Massive Attack covering Jose Gonzales and it just ... no.
