This is the point in a great artist's career when he starts putting out mediocre material. It's not actively bad, I just don't see how it's regarded as highly as it is. I do have a soft spot for "Cover Me", though.

This is my least favorite album by Springsteen. It's funny...this album is as overly praised as his next album, Tunnel Of Love, has been ignored. Tunnel Of Love is in no way mediocre...it's far superior to this one.

I really love "Dancing in the Dark". "I'm on Fire" is also a great song. The rest is all pretty good, but certainly this is his most overrated album. It lacks the depth that a lot of his earlier albums have. Still, a great pop album.

Yeah, I'm with most people here, nowhere near his best, probably outside my top 5 of his. I still enjoy it quite a bit though. Glory Days in particular.

Ironically, I went and picked this up today before knowing it was the album of the day! I have been on a bit of a Bruce binge and I've been picking up a lot of his better albums as of late. This one, while certainly overrated in some regards, it still pretty solid. Definitely not my favorite album from him, but it is in my top five for sure.

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

Eh. It's whatever. It's not a bad album, but it's far from my favorite Springsteen album.

The songs on this albums are among some of my earliest musical memories. Almost all of the songs were radio hits so I knew this album long before I knew to even listen to albums. I had the tape as a youngster but didn't really "get it".

When I rediscovered Bruce in college and started listening to the lyrics, I learned how awesome this album truly is. The songs are just as deep as his prior material but they were given a radio friendly 80s pop production to get radio play. (That's probably what turns a lot of people off now).

The title track has to be one of the most misunderstood and misused songs of all time.

Not as good as anything he put out before this, but definitely better the an out-of-context look at the cover would suggest.

I always preferred John Cougar Mellencamp's stuff in the eighties to Springsteen's output, anyway. But yeah, it's okay.
