So, I spend some time on imgur and reddit where "grammar nazis" thrive. My view of grammar nazis is that they're pseudo-intellectuals that don't realize language is just to get the point across. I like to use the examples that you can't type a Boston accent with proper grammar, and writers like Faulkner and McCarthy couldn't express what they do with proper grammar. The beauty of linguistics is in dialect and change through time, not some static rules of today upon which people rest their smug sense of superiority because they've learned to play mental fetch. /end rant

I have some pet peeves, but I mostly agree.

Also, I'm slovenian, what fun would it be if I always used perfect grammar?

Idk if I'd call myself a nazi. If I ever correct someone, it's always with good intentions. I usually won't correct someone on the Internet, but if someone I know is chronically spelling something wrong or using the wrong word (for all intensive purposes, should of, 'til) then I have to correct them. And I'd want them to do the same for me.

I'm totally a grammar Nazi. I've toned down my act somewhat, since it never turns out well when you correct someone.

If someone types "their" or "there" or "they're" incorrectly, I don't bother with it. If it's so bad that the message they convey is confusing, however, then I will certainly point it out to them.

Do you think people use the term "grammer nazis" because the people who get called them are intolerant of people who type different to themselves while the Nazis were intolerant of people who were/looked different to themselves. Think
