and solo artists that wouldn't work in a band.
I've always wondered about david bowie for example. would he have fitted into a band or was he destined to be a solo performer

Billie Joe Armstrong. Although I do admire his songwriting with Green Day, I feel without Mike and Tre, it would be a bit meh. And I think that Bowie was always destined to be a solo performer. Compare his 70s work with...(shudder)....Tin Machine.... _________________

Without Van Halen David Lee Roth would not work as a frontman.

I really enjoyed The Eraser, much more than Atoms For Peace. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

David Lee Roth did go solo for a while. The result wasn't awful, but obviously not as good as with Van Halen. The strategy for him was to surround himself with excellent musicians. _________________

Freddie Mercury - He was the best singer of all time, but his solo work was pretty naff.
I think you could say more or less any punk band's frontman too really.

I was thinking the same. But I think the Axl of the prime Guns N Roses period would have been good solo. He really handled the bulk of the heavy lifting on some of the best GNR material. And he clearly can't work with bands anyway. haha. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

that's why i cant imagine someone like elton john being in a band. his ego is too big and he wants to be the only star.
