I'm pretty bummed to see such a great album draw Blue Lines in the very first round. Oh well, I'd be happy to see either of these albums win the whole thing, tbh.
Anyway, I'm not very good at promoting, but I'll say a few things about Exile:
For one, Liz Phair can write a god-damn chord progression. For example, this entire song:
The guitar work throughout is outstanding. The lyrics are blunt (in a good way), highly personal, and really dark in places. The album is pretty varied, but maintains themes of failed romance and sexual liberation throughout, and Liz delivers them with a shitload of attitude.
I'd be happy to see either of these albums go on, but everyone needs to give Exile a chance if you haven't already.
Oh, and I'd like to give a shout-out to revolver94 for introducing me to this album
Errm, at times, Exile makes me feel uncomfortable. it has an enjoyable sound, but I just can't get behind certain aspects of the album. I like Massive Attack and like their album Blue Lines. They're an enjoyable outfit, they can be boring sometimes, but that's fairly rare. Errm, went with Blue Lines.
