When I got this album, the sleeve had a quote from Stephen Malkmus saying it was the most beautiful music he'd ever heard

Popol Vuh makes some of the most spiritual music ever made and while In den Garten Pharoas latches onto my soul more, Hosianna might be more haunting. It's like seeing the ghost of your great grandmother but never directly interacting with her.

An interesting listen for sure, but there are at least three other Popol Vuh releases I like better.

Choosing between those two is really tough for me. I think they are in a way mirror images of each other; they achieve the same thing (haunting combo of eastern + western spiritual music, + hints of rock/popular music) but through opposite means (atmosphere focused electronic noodling vs. melodic meditative stuff with acoustic instruments).

I get frustrated though because I've had trouble getting into any other Popol Vuh records outside a few isolated songs. But this and In den Garten are among my favourite albums ever.
