Awesome. Tied with Master Of Puppets as my favorite Metallica album (though I haven't heard Kill 'Em All and ...And Justice For All), I really need to re-listen to both to make myself a clearer opinion.

Oooh! Smile I love it. My fourth favorite Metallica album. Ride The Lightning and Creeping Death would have to be my song-picks.

Outstanding, and possibly my favorite Metallica album. I go back and forth between this and Master of Puppets (and Kill 'Em All is not too far behind), but there's something about the raw emotion of this album that really gets me. I love the neo-classical opening of "Fight Fire with Fire", the title track is a nonstop adrenaline rush, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is groovy as fock, "Fade to Black" is the most beautiful thing they ever recorded, and "Call of Ktulu" is just an incredibly powerful closer. Nothing on this album quite measures up to "Master of Puppets" (the song) or "Leper Messiah", but I feel like this one maintains a more consistent focus than its successor. Really great album.

This is the first heavy metal album I've heard. Great heavy metal, too. The first track was the worst, and it was good even then. I might give it another listen, since this is one of the first albums I've heard since joining BEA.

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

Oh hell yea.

This is my favorite Metallica album. "Master Of Puppets" is great, but sweet jesus this is fantastic. I love this album with the firey passion of a thousand suns.

All that being said, it's alright.

Oh man this is just another Metallica masterpiece. Those first three albums are spotless. Master of Puppets does edge this out by a little though.

If I didn't enjoy Master of Puppets, is there any good in me exploring more Metallica or Thrash Metal?

Well Metallica went away from thrash after their fourth album, so maybe try their s/t album which is full of more radio-friendly stuff.

As far as thrash goes, I made this which isn't really a finished chart, but there's stuff you could try. But yea, thrash is generally a pretty raw and extreme genre of which Master of Puppets is among the most accessible so I don't know if you'd enjoy any of these any more. http://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart....amp;page=3
