A masterpiece of folk in a time and place dominated by psychedelic rock. _________________

Ridiculously beautiful and emotional album. It grows on me every time I hear it.

We used to listen to So Long Marianne in the car when I was a little kid.
Biggest hit of nostalgia when I listened to this album and I recognized the song. It's in my top 10 songs still, and I actually don't care an awful lot for the other songs, but that song means a great deal to me.

Stunning debut. It's probably not as awe-inspiring as its follow-up, and you can feel "Suzanne" has been overplayed and shadowing the rest, but "Master Song", "Sisters of Mercy", "Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye" and above all "The Stranger Song" (still my favourite Cohen song) are all timeless.
Lyrically it's difficult to get any better:
"I know that kind of man
It's hard to hold the hand of anyone
who is reaching for the sky just to surrender"
"Let's meet tomorrow if you choose
upon the shore, beneath the bridge
that they are building on some endless river
Then he leaves the platform
for the sleeping car that's warm
You realize, he's only advertising one more shelter
And it comes to you, he never was a stranger
And you say ok the bridge or someplace later."
"Like any dealer he was watching for the card
that is so high and wild
he'll never need to deal another"
And that's just off "The Stranger Song". Beautiful.

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

Oh yes. This was my introduction into Leonard Cohen and I instantly fell in love with it. So beautiful. One of the most lyrically strong albums I've ever heard _________________ 2023 Chart

The effusive praise delivered by earlier posts is absolutely correct. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.
