We've all done this. You watch the Wizard of Oz, turn the sound off, and play Dark Side of the Moon while the movie is going. It synchronizes fairly well.
I've tried this with a few others. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road with Dr. Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas (the Jim Carrey version), sort of works. Star Wars with Moody Blues does not work. 80's Power Ballad bands like Journey and Styx work as soundtracks to televised Baseball.
Anybody tried this with any other combinations?

I hardly watch movies. When I do though most of the time I am listening to an album as well so I will turn the sound down on the TV.

That's definitely how the movie is intended to be watched.

Wizard of Oz = best musical ever ever EVER!
DSOTM = biggest pile of steaming horse poo wankery ever ever EVER
Why on earth would you ruin awesomeness by having that shit playing in the background?

I've heard of the combination of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hail to the Thief by Radiohead. I haven't tried the whole thing, but if you place 2+2=5 with the opening of the movie, it synchronizes pretty well. I've also tried the whole DSotM and The Wizard of Oz, kinda bored through it honestly. _________________

I've heard about this for many years, but I've never bothered to try it, probably because watching Wizard of Oz just isn't appealing.

I'm perplexed. How have any of you never seen The Wizard of Oz? It's such a magical film. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

I think I saw 10-15 minutes of the movie once. Didn't mind it, but in general I tend to avoid musicals. Unless they're animated ones, apparently.
