Is a "girl group" not a band?

They are a band, and a good one at that. Vocals count as instruments.

One of my favorite genres. Here's my top 15.

1. The Bangles (1984-1988) - Walk Like An Egyptian, Eternal Flame
2. The Crystals (1961-1964) - Da Doo Ron Ron, He's A Rebel, Then He Kissed Me
3. The Shangri-Las (1964-1967) - The Leader of the Pack, Walking in the Sand
4. The Andrews Sisters (1938-1951) - Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B, Rum and Coca-Cola
5. Diana Ross & the Supremes (1964-1970) Love Child, The Happening, Stop in the Name of Love
6. The Pointer Sisters (1973-1985) Fire, He's So Shy, Automatic
7. The Pussycat Dolls (2005-2008) I Hate This Part, Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny), Hush Hush Hush Hush
8. Sugababes (2000-2010) Round Round, Hole in the Head, Push the Button, About You Now
9. The Ronettes (1961-1966) Be My Baby, Baby I Love You
10. The Chiffons (1963-1976) He's So Fine, One Fine Day
11. Destiny's Child (1998-2004) Survivor, Bootylicious, Lose My Breath
12. The Cookies / Raelettes (1961-1967) Chains, Girls Grow Up Faster Than Boys, Don't Say Nothin' (Bad About My Baby)
13. The Go-Gos (1981-1984) Vacation, We Got the Beat
14. The McGuire Sisters (1954-1962) Sugartime, Sincerely
15. The Shirelles (1961-1965) Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Dedicated to the One I Love, Soldier Boy

Honorable Mention: Heart. They'd be at the top of my list, but the rule was they had to be exclusively female.

One-hit wonders
The Angels - My Boyfriend's Back (1963)
The Jaynettes - Sally Go Round the Roses (1963)
Toto Coelo - I Eat Cannibals (1982)
Indigo Girls - Closer to Fine (1992)
Danity Kane - Damaged (2008)
Li'l Mix - Wings (2013)

1963 was far and away the best year for Girl Groups.

The Runaways should be mentioned. And let's not forget Babes In Toyland, The Be Good Tanyas, L7 and The Roches.

And, no. Vixen doesn't count as a best ANYTHING band.

No mention of Cub? I mean, how can you not love a band labelled "cuddlecore".

Most of these bands had reunion tours years after they broke up. The Bangles did one as recently as 2011. I didn't count that with any of the other bands either.
