there's so many, but here's a few that seem to get little to no love on BEA

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (album pick: Dazzle Ships / song pick: Genetic Engineering)
XTC (album pick: Big Express / song pick: All You Pretty Girls)
The dB's (album pick: Like This / song pick: Spitting in the Wind)
Killing Joke (album pick: Night Time / song pick: Eighties)
This Mortal Coil (album pick: Filigree & Shadow / song pick: Strength of Strings)
The Waterboys (album pick: This Is The Sea / song pick: Spirit)
Arthur Russell (album pick: World Of Echo / song pick: Soon To Be Innocent Fun/ Let's See)
Crime & The City Solution (album pick: Shine / song pick: One Every Train (Grain Will Bear Grain))
Go-Betweens (album pick: Liberty Belle & The Black Diamond Express / song pick: The Ghost & The Black Hat)

Basically came here to post this. Thank you for doing my work for me.

Though for albums + songs I'd say XTC's best is Skylarking and Generals and Majors as the song, and OMD's best was the debut with the best song as Enola Gay. That's just me. I have the limited edition 45 of genetic engineering, tohugh, great song.

haha thanks. it was all off the top of my head, and i chose those particular songs and albums by XTC and OMD because i never hear them mentioned, and they're so incredibly good.

Fair enough! I still hate that Vh1 called XTC a one hit wonder for Dear God. Not even their best SELLING song. One of their best songs, sure, but they certainly weren't one hit wonders for it.

here comes some '80s punk. outside of X and Black Flag, I don't think you'll find these outside of punk-based charts; these are all California-based groups

X - "The World's A Mess; It's In My Kiss" (from Los Angeles)
The Gun Club - "Preaching the Blues"/"Sexbeat" (both from Fire of Love)
Black Flag - "Swinging Man" (from My War)
Adolescents - "Kids of the Black Hole"/"Amoeba" (from Adolescents)
Agent Orange - "Bloodstains" (from Living In Darkness)
Social Distortion - "Mommy's Little Monster" (from Mommy's Little Monster)
Flipper - "Sex Bomb" (from Generic Album)
Fear - "New York's Alright if You Like Saxophones" (The Record)
Circle Jerks - "Live Fast, Die Young" (from Group Sex)
Saccharine Trust - "A Human Certainty" (from Paganicons)
Angry Samoans - "Get Off the Air" (from Inside My Brain)

some other punk from outside Cali

Minor Threat - "Stepping Stone" (from Complete Discography)
Bad Brains - "Pay to Cum" (from Bad Brains)
Killing Joke - "Wardance" (from Killing Joke)
Scratch Acid - "Cannibal" (from Scratch Acid (first EP))
Butthole Surfers - "From Pittsburgh to Lebanon" (from Locust Abortion Technician)
Crass - "Our Wedding" (from Penis Envy)
Gorilla Biscuits - "New Direction" (from Start Today)

These.

Also if you like these you might be familiar with or might enjoy the following:

It's A Girl - Sweet Baby
Nevermind the Bassets - Sweet Baby Jesus
Everybody's Entitled to their Own Opinion - Mr T Experience
Night Shift at the Thrill Factory - Mr T Experience

Of course all of that led up to the wonderful 90s groups Bomb Bassets, Hi-Fives, and as some don't realize ... Green Day.

Seriously.

Google it.

The Triffids and the Associates would be two pretty underrated '80s acts, imo.

Songwise I'll go for
