How many other Doctor Who fans awaiting the 50th anniversary?

To be honest, I'm not much of a fan of the new series (I enjoyed the earlier version much more) but nonetheless I am stoked for the upcoming specials.

I am hyped up for the 50th anniversary! Dancing

Edit: I also abstained from the poll. All of these guys are great in their own right.

Eccleston's portrayal was my favourite. It was like his many centuries of experience saving the universe and fighting evil had instilled in him a working-class matter-of-fact-ness, devoid of pretense. He was the funniest Doctor by far, naturally authoritative without condescension, a strong no-bullshit policy, he knew what was up, he could be intimidating but also incredibly likeable. Tennant and Smith seem like gurning hipster twats in comparison. Other strong contenders are Pertwee and Baker. Baker was probably the best at depicting The Doctor's alien-ness.

You kidding? I've been waiting for this since 1990. I got into Doctor Who right before it's long haitus. Learned the lore, heard about the Three Doctors episode in 1973 and the Five Doctors episode in 1983. I did the math, and expected something exciting in 1993.

Then the show was cancelled at BBC. 1993, nothing. 1996, a TV movie that for years was impossible to find after the broadcast (and I got poor reception that day). 2003, nothing. Then, in 2005, the show started up again, and it was better than ever. Now, finally, the 50th anniversary comes along... it better be awesome.

To answer the poll question, my doctor is Pertwee, the 3rd. The Unit stories with the Brigadier were a lot of fun, and he had a gift for cool gadgets. But far more than that, the man had a certain dignity (in spite of his foppish costume) that none of the doctors quite achieved.

Doctor Who as it exists now is a contemptibly smug, Tumblr-friendly, poorly-written slodge and creative wasteland that needs to go away.

If John Hurt really is the Doctor between 8 and 9, making Capaldi the 13th, then I hope they stick with canon and make Capaldi the final Doctor so that this show can be buried before Moffat manages to fuck it up beyond repair.

(Oh, and Eccleston and/or Tom Baker for me)

I threw a vote Sylvester McCoy's way because he, Pertwee and Smith are all pretty equal for me and he's consistently underrated.

Now having said they're all fairly equal if I had to rank them it'd be:

1. John Pertwee
2. Sylvester McCoy
3. Matt Smith
4. Patrick Troughton
5. Christopher Eccleston
6. William Hartnell
7. Peter Davidson
8. Tom Baker
9. Colin Baker
10. Paul McGann
11. David Tennant

This, I used to be a massive fan but gave up on Doctor Who last year. You hit the nail on the head because tumblr ruined Doctor Who.
