In honor of the late great Peter O'Toole, I thought maybe it was time to discuss our all-time favorite performances on film (or in television, if you so desire). To date, there's a few performances that have really stood out in my mind as being unusually powerful or skillful. A brief rundown...

Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia

Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln (and pretty much anything else)

Alec Guinness in Bridge on the River Kwai

Andy Griffith in A Face in the Crowd

Cary Grant in Arsenic and Old Lace

Other opinions??

Peter Sellers in Dr Strangelove.

Also, Udo Kier in Blood for Dracula:

(I'm partly kidding on the second one, but not sure how much.)

Yes. I like him the most in There Will Be Blood he's the perfect psychopath.

Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon I always loved, couldn't find the clip I wanted with him talking to his boyfriend but this is great still.

Wha... how... why...

Anyway, gotta give props to Philip Seymour Hoffman in most things, but particularly in Synecdoche, New York, Jack Lemmon in The Apartment, Michael Fassbender in Shame and Fish Tank, Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet, Richard E. Grant in Withnail & I, Carey Mulligan in An Education, and John Turturro in Barton Fink.

Oh, and pretty much everybody in The Wire.
