Post subject: How much does the soundtrack impact the movie?
I'm just wondering. I think film score is a major element of the film. And some is really aided by its music. Also, some could be possibly ruined by weak soundtrack.
So, How's your opinion? Do you think the soundtrack of the movie(or the documentary) is very important? Then, what's your favourite soundtrack? _________________ If you're feeling sinister, Go off and Listen to Indie Pop
To answer the topic question: A lot. Shitty licensed music isn't what I think is a problem, moreso how well any music fits. You could have all of my favorite artists in there but I wouldn't want to hear any Neutral Milk Hotel in a horror film (don't say Pree-Sisters) nor would I want early Mr. Bungle to show up on a slow-paced drama. The quality of the music can be passable to below average but if it fits I'm fine.
Only watched two of my favorite movies ever due to the music. 500 Days of Summer serves as music videos for like 3 songs, just play the whole song over the movie and it's perfect. Example:
Movies that have my favorite soundtracks are almost automatically favorites of mine. Maybe it has to do with me being a bigger fan of music than movies.
Movies like Dazed and Confused I worship because they have amazing soundtracks. _________________
I'd say soundtrack (or score) is as important to a movie as almost anything else. Great soundtracks that come to mind are ones like Forrest Gump or The Big Chill, which bring to mind a certain time period in our lives, and like music so often does, transports us back there.
I would also argue that there would be no Tarantino with out great soundtracks. Think back to Reservoir Dogs and how different that movie would be w/o Stephen Wright spinning the soundtrack.
I started a favorite soundtrack list a while ago and haven't yet finished it. Its comprised of soundtracks I either had as a kid so they're sentimental, or soundtracks I just love. Much like my other lists they are personal, and not what I think are the "greatest" soundtracks.
Thomas Newman is my favorite score composer not because hes the greatest, I just think he has such a hard time catching a break when it comes to award season. _________________
