Citizen Kane really grew on me though. Didn't like it at first, but now it is one of the best I've seen. |
Just the thought of having to watch Citizen Kane again makes me feel uncomfortable hey. (Maybe I had a head ache or something while I was watching it, Im not sure)
I'm currently going through all the best picture winners to see how good they are, Im on to The Sting at the moment, and so far enjoyable, But I reckon the worst one out of all of them has to be Shakespeare in Love, its rubbish! The Greatest Show On Earth is pretty painful too! _________________ Having a family is the kind of thing that could be held against a person

Have you seen Rain Man? Great film. I loved Terms of Endearment, such a sincere and pretty nuanced best picture winner. Annie Hall of course I love, and the Godfather. Marty is great too!

Yeah I've seen Rain Man and The Godfather. (I actually own The Godfather trilogy, I do respect the film series and see its genius {besides the third one} But I dont understand the unanimous hype it gets. Do I need to be American to get it?
Never seen Terms of Endearment or Annie Hall, nothing has grabbed me about them, but I'll get around to them. I want to watch Midnight Cowboy but its really impossible to locate, Is it worth trying to find? _________________ Having a family is the kind of thing that could be held against a person

Yes. Two brilliant performances by Hoffman and Voight in that one. Probably not as controversial today as when it was released. $14.98 from amazon.com if you want to get it.

When "Midnight Cowboy" was released, it was rated "X" and still won the best picture oscar that year...amazing. That gives you a good feel for what the culture was like in 1969...It is a great movie, one of my favorites.
("Scarface" was also originally rated "X" when it was released, in 1983, in the theatres but was then edited down to get the "R" rating.)

To be totally honest, one of the main selling points of the movie to me was the fact that it got an X rating and still won the best picture. I also do have a soft spot for Hoffman, even in his not so great performances (Hook, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium) I still enjoy watching him play his characters.
Thanks for the Amazon tip Bork, If all else fails I'll by it off the net, I just like to find movies wherever I can, If I want something bad enough buying off the internet can be cheating. Regardless, my hunt isn't going well. _________________ Having a family is the kind of thing that could be held against a person

It doesn't really. In my top 10 Films of all time list, the latest film was released in the '70s. I've got nothing against new movies, some of them are actually pretty great (e. g. The Lord of the Rings, Pixar's animated movies, etc.) but some of the older movies were more imaginative (Hausu, Tom Tom the Piper's Son [the Ken Jacobs film released in 1969], Neco z Alenky, Un chien andalou), or had a style that I like more (2001, Dr. Strangelove, 12 Angry Men).
Anyway, I like Citizen Kane more than Casablanca.

I voted Citizen Kane, but neither would make my top 100.
