The Unnatural World by Have A Nice Life
So I know as far as albums for this goes this is probably one of the more well heard ones, but I'm also sure a lot of people still haven't heard it and I would love to see some discussion on it. Personally I really love everything Dan Barrett has put out, and considering the crazy amount of expectations that had been put on this album, I feel like him and Tim did a great job on it. It's pretty difficult to avoid comparing it to Deathconsciousness considering that was what made them, and as far as an album goes I'd say it's much less immediately striking. There are fewer really catchy songs, and less explosions of noise. It's more dense as well, and it feels like they took a different approach to the album overall. I've kind of cooled down on it a bit since I initially heard it, but The Unnatural World is still my album of the year so far, and in my eyes is a great addition to a relatively small body of Dan Barrett related work.
I don't think it's on Pitchfork Advance anymore, so if anyone needs a download they can pm and I'll put it up on dropbox on something.

Listening to it now. Someting tells me this would be Jason's favorite shoegaze album because of the heavier sound. Anyway, this may be a hard one for me to rate since I haven't heard a lot of shoegaze.

Ignore what genre it is, just focus on whether you like it and why.

RYM and Wikipedia call it shoegaze, and the band is called a shoegaze band on other sites. Plus, 39 users voted it "shoegaze" on RYM. No one has to think it's shoegaze if they don't think so, but don't assume I don't know what I'm talking about. It sounds a lot like shoegaze with some drone.
Ignoring the genre labels, it's alright. It was very ups and down for me. There was some cool stuff, but some boring tracks.

I'm not too big a fan of Deathconsciousness, but this is simply an incredible album, my AOTY so far.

This is an album that I've been wanting to listen to, but I missed the pitchfork advanced by one day (yes, it's a bummer). I would certainly appreciate you putting this in a dropbox or whatever as I want to listen to this one quite a bit.

Really enjoyed it when I listened to the advance a couple weeks ago. Gonna give this another spin later. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
