If there isn't already a way (which I don't think there is), there should be a system in which you can go onto a moderation section and add a new album or a band without having to add it to a chart.

It would mean that data moderators could easily add a new band without having to add them to a chart, and the same with an album. I think it would be a lot more useful.

For instance when there are multiple bands (like today there was Phoenix (France) and Phoenix (Romania)), there is no way to create Phoenix (Romania) so you have to add a faux album to a chart with Phoenix (Romania) as the artist and then assign that album to that artist and delete the faux album. It's just complicated.

Right I can see the confusion. Somebody tried to add an album by Phoenix (Romania) today, but that artist didn't exist. So they typed Phoenix in, not knowing this was a French band...

Cantafabule by Phoenix Romania

this album. It was assigned to Phoenix who are French. Because Phoenix (Romania) don't exist, you can't change the artist of the album to them, because they have to have an ID. Thus, you have to create the band first... the only way to do that is to add another of their albums into your chart, but if they don't have another one or one that you have any info on you have to add a faux album as a way of creating the band...

Example by Phoenix Romania

That way the band will be created. This album can now be deleted (which is pending), and then you can edit 'Cantafabule' to be by the ID of Phoenix (Romania). That is the only way of currently creating an artist.

It's confusing, a simple 'add artist' for data mods would be so much simpler.

I think the guy who added Phoenix didn't realise he was using the French band when he meant to use the Romanian one, saving his album under Phoenix (France) before he realised this was wrong, once the album was added the artist appeared to be locked in as Phoenix (France) instead of Phoenix (Romania).

Something like I guess, there's another thread about it, it's probably a rare occurrence though...

Sorry about this issue, one of the Mods PMd me a couple of months back letting me know about this & requesting something similar.

There is also an issue where multiple bands share the same name & need to be distinguished. The names on the site really need to be more consistent & follow a nomenclature (with a suffix perhaps derived from the artist's principal country & decade to individually identify them).

I definitely agree there should be a way for Data Moderators to be able to create new artists where an album has been added to the site and needs re-assigning, but the correct artist doesn't already exist on the site.

Any inaction on my part is because I am swamped right now, within my day job, & also on BEA. The item is on my list of work & it will be added to the site in the update after the one that I'm currently working on.

In the meantime, the preferred way of dealing with these types of scenario is to report a data correction via the admin pages & I'll do the dirty work of making the change (adding the artist & reassigning the album). This will then leave no unwanted artefacts that shouldn't be on the site such as 'fake' albums.
