Wonderful record that shows some of Dylan’s talent beyond lyrical songwriting if you were a part of the 1% of the world who were unaware. It’s also an excellent country record of the time and one of my favorites.

One of Dylan's best records. Every song on Side 1 is practically a masterpiece.

This might be my favorite Dylan tbh.

When I bought this album I honestly had no idea that it was essentially a country album. Country isn't usually my thing, but the beauty of Dylan's songwriting made this album a pleasant surprise for me. Girl From the North Country, Nashville Skyline Rag, Country Pie, Tonight I'll be Staying Here With You... all great tracks. Not my favorite Dylan album, but certainly a very good one and really nice change of pace.

Has that changed since then? Admittedly I've never been distant with country, bluegrass, americana, etc. but I never truly gave it the respect it deserved for the longest time.

You know, it's still not my go to genre, but when it comes to musical taste, I think that Nashville Skyline did for country/bluegrass/etc what Kendrick's To Pimp A Butterfly did for rap and hip hop. Sort of opened a door of more appreciation at the very least.

Honestly ever since I started getting really involved in this site and visiting it every day, my taste isn't changing but merely expanding week to week. Past couple months, I bought my first Radiohead album, a bunch of Dylan, MBDTF, Miles Davis Kind of Blue, some Bowie, and so on. So slowly thanks in large part to this site, I'll get into more country and bluegrass. But not today's country.. dear god.

There is nothing wrong with today's country... unless you are talking about that GAC/CMT pop format (with twang!) that even I feel a bit distant towards. But I like a lot of modern country such as:

To name a few.

We must remember that even if pop swallows the contemporary perception that doesn't mean the genre is in poor health. Wink

Gowi, my apologies, I didn't mean to or want to generalize the entire genre but yes I was talking about GAC/CMT country. I can't stomach it. It's lousy in my opinion. And how it is so popular is beyond me. It is more bubblegum than current pop trends.

But yeah there is a lot of great country from this era, stuff that I have heard and of course haven't heard. I'll get started on these videos!

Probably my least favorite '60s Dylan release (which is to say it's still good). I actually like country a lot, including a lot of the rock/folk crossover stuff that was popular in the late '60s, but this just feels too slick and Dylan feels a bit out of his element. Great songwriting as usual, though.
