Can't really see what people love so much about "My Girls". I mean, I like it a lot (as I love the whole album), but it's probably in the bottom 50th percentile of the tracks on this album for me.
Let's see, it'd probably go something like this for me:
1. In the Flowers
2. Bluish
3. Summertime Clothes
4. Daily Routine
5. No More Runnin'
6. Brother Sport
7. Taste
8. My Girls
9. Lion in a Coma
10. Also Frightened
11. Guys Eyes

I actually don't like this album though, even My Girls. Strawberry Jam, however, is a masterpiece, and Feels is not far from one.

Since its release, this album has almost always served as a cheap badge of indie cred in my mind. A lot of nothing that a lot of fuss is made over (in some circles at least). I really appreciate certain facets of the music and have a certain attraction to the album as well, but I think there's a handful of significantly better AnCo albums.

Gotcha, people only listen to Merriweather Post Pavilion for a "cheap badge of indie cred".

Ha, this is actually my favorite of theirs right now, a cliche choice, but it's what I'm feeling right now. I've been listening to this one a good deal recently, the main reason being it's an incredible pick me up, and never fails to fill me with positive energy. The 2nd chorus in Brothersport is probably one of my favorite moments in music ever, it just fuels me with confidence and vitality, which is the perfect pick me up after No More Runnin(Which is definitely not the worst song on this album, merely a haunting breather in between the 2 most energetic song on the album. I don't believe My Girls is the best song on this album, but it's probably in the upper tier, and the first 3 songs as a whole are fantastic way to start off the album on a more euphoric, stagnant note, something I wish I would see more of in track sequencing.
But yeah, Animal Collective are my favorite artist ever.

IMO if you were using pitchfork for badges of indie cred in 2009 you were behind the times by about ten or more years. five if generous. I think a lot of people try to use it that way, though.
