Love 'Midnight' it's a really understated track. If the rest of the album is in a similar vein to this then I'll be fully indulging. Unless they've done an Arcade Fire and leaked the best track first only for the rest to be a hideous, vomit inducing mess.
Midnight is gorgeous. Can't stop listening to it. Magic is nice enough and pretty catchy but nothing remotely special. I feel like the album will be somewhere between the 2.
I don't know.... they are good songs, but I get the feeling the album is going to end up like X&Y (a theoretically solid album that gets lost in itself). I am looking forward to the album though. You are right though Meruizh, Mylo Xyloto was an unmitigated disaster that could have been made better if they added Moving to Mars to the track list.
Initially I thought that these two songs were so disappointing, and whilst I have grown to like Midnight, I still have my doubts about Magic. I'll still listen to the album and it sounds much more interesting than Mylo Xyloto so far. It doesn't feel hollow. _________________
I'm on the fence. About Midnight anyway, couldn't care less about Magic.
It's good to see that they took a new direction, rather than cranking up the stadium pop rock sound. It was definitely released first to stir people up, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's their most left-of-field song on the record. It doesn't really bother me that it sounds like Bon Iver or whatever people have been saying, I think it's a beast of it's own, what bothers me is that it sounds like it could be the fourth song of some indie solo artist's album released in 2009 that has now been long forgotten, but because a band as big as Coldplay have released it's getting an obscene amount of attention.
The release of 'Magic' made me lose faith in the album. If it was going entirely in the direction of Midnight, I think it would be quite a pleasant release, but instead it just seems like releasing Midnight first was Coldplay's attempt to say 'Look at us! We're so different and experimental!' but then releasing Magic as the real single to put all the irked fans at ease, purely for the publicity.
Coldplay are currently the cheese sandwiches of the music industry - there's nothing really wrong with a cheese sandwich, and most people will eat it, it's just a little bit boring, and people who say it's their favourite sandwich probably haven't tried anything else.
