Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.1/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.6.

The odd and rapidly shifting time signatures are pretty interesting, and there's some very intricate guitar interplay. The album has a lot of impressive moments instrumentally in the first half. I felt the lack of better songs and hooks holds the album back, and it failed to sustain my interest on a few tracks due to lack of a melody or a sense of progression within the track. I think the album is still good overall for what it is, but I would revisit the first half only.

Not for me, again a band that does not know how to end a song....

Everything works on this album. The guitars are sharp and angular because that's how they should be. The vocalist screams because it furthers the music, not because that's what he's supposed to do (I'm looking at you black metal)

Such a great album. A sound many bands tried but could not duplicate.

Stabbed in the gut with a shiv, the pain is so severe that the brain releases potent toxins to relieve the sensation.

Immediately launching into attack, the guitars of Rick Froberg and John Reiss converge relentlessly, building a case for one of the all time great math rock/punk records. It's technical without being showy. Songs suffocate when they need to, and also breathe when necessary.

This album would have been way better if it were just shorter. This album gets gradually worse. I thought the first half was amazing.
