World Of Hassle (studio album) by Alan Palomo

“World Of Hassle” has a scrap book nature. Each of the songs is a unique memory scribed down as the album develops. They are varied and most often a bit disconnected. “The Wailing Mall” has thick synth that envelops you into the position of an immigrant child lost in a massive mall. It’s rich storytelling makes it a perfect opener. “Nudista Mundial ’89” kills with its bubbling melody and sleazy lyrics. Easily the funniest song on the record. There is a switch halfway through from Palomo’s synth pop to a moodier sophisti-pop. The sound is well replicated but feels slightly underwhelming. The earnest effort doesn’t quite capture the swave nuance of Bryan ferry. The clipping approach doesn’t paint a whole picture, but the memories are well worth getting lost in.
