Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. “Data” is a titan of production. Tainy is able to weave radically different sounds from track to track into each other. Classic reggaeton will shape-shift into moody electronic in a second and it will feel natural. The album is absolutely stellar at midtrack. “Fantasma AVC” uses this fantastic vocal distortion as a musical subway between its two sides. “Colmillo” flips the beat with glitched vocals turning into breathing and then the second half. No matter how the change is made, it always kills. “Mojabi Ghost” has a melody that will become classic with how effectively it gets into your head. “Data” has two things working against it; length and the lyrics. The B side is not as strong and leaves the latter half feeling unwieldy. The lyrics are forgettable with no unique emotion or imagery crafted. Flaws aside, something as fresh and well-made as “Data” deserves attention.
