“Into the realm” drew me to it with its characters and image. Doom metal gripped by the short dark fiction of a pulp novel. Unfortunately, I feel like the album doesn’t do enough with its concept. There is certainly a fantasy feel to the lyrics, but little is done to make a unique realm. Instrumentally, It makes reasonable doom metal. It works particularly well on the more stripped back songs like “Cry for Me”. Still, it likes an iconic riff or production trick to truly elevate it. For now the sword remains in the stone, appeal seen but not truly utilized.
