Been a fan since a year after Mercurial World came out. So I was not expecting anything this amazing. I was expecting another Madonna influenced album but what we got is completely original and not conventional. The whole album is lush front to back, very beautiful and interesting melodies. Easily in my top 50 albums of all time but I expect it to grow on me with more listens. Definitely my favorite album of the decade so far

Don't like her voice. Sounds weird, like a kid singing.
This album is so much above anything I’d previously heard, it has just made me find sites like this and vote for it it’s a revelation in musical history.

Magdalena Bay blew me away and I did not see it coming at all. Imaginal Disk gets better with each listen and is likely to increase in score over time. Easily album of the year. Possibly album of the decade so far. I also cannot recall a better recent sequence of songs than the last three songs on Imaginal Disk. Poetic, tender and empowering. They remind me so much of so many of my favourite artists (such as Pink Floyd, Grimes, Let's Eat Grandma) yet are completely their own sound.
The production on "Imaginal Disk" is immaculate. Each instrument sounds so full and enveloping, rich to the ear. The transitions are seamless. The entire album flows without a singular hiccup. Besides the phenomenal groundwork, it feels strangely empty. "Imaginal Disk" certainly has great tracks, like "Image" but lacks an iconic moment. The whole record builds to a climax that isn't there. An experience that is equally impressive and aimless.

After an extraordinary debut album, Magdalena Bay have outdone themselves by churning out a simply spectacular album, certainly the best of 2024. The quality and level of most of the songs is light years ahead of the average of various international productions of recent years. I foresee a bright future for these two artists. Chapeau!
It doesn't have any hit songs (none are melodically developed enough for that), but it is still nicely done and there is a consistency to the tracks and their sequence. The style is very close to Blondie meets Alvvays meets PJ Harvey: Indi-Pop/Synthpop/New Wave. The album sounds like it was produced in the late 80s. A relaxing listen. 8.5/10!
