'Selling A Vibe' is a decent, middle-of-the-road Cribs album, the sort of record you nod along to on the M62 while fumes of frustration and fleeting intoxication swirl in equal measure. Only a few odd highlights—like ‘A Point Too Hard To Make’ and ‘Looking For The Wrong Guy’—pierce the otherwise plodding march of jangly riffs and slightly off-kilter vocals. There’s a certain Cribtastic charm in the cogs falling off the grooves, little sparks of wit and swagger that remind you why you keep coming back, but you’re never quite certain if it’s the band or the M62 fumes making you dizzy. And seriously, never buy a Tesla; this album has enough reminders that things can go wrong without adding autopilot into the mix. Overall, it’s an album that’s frustrating, occasionally intoxicating, and very much in the comfortable middle lane, like a well-worn leather jacket you pull on knowing it’s going to crease and sag but still feels familiar.
