Fussless. It unfolds slowly, the kind of album you half-notice at first, then realise you’ve been paying attention the whole time — usually around the moment you accept you’ve lost your passport somewhere in the parque and there’s no point panicking. Olivares sits in that uneasy space between post-punk tension and loose, jazz-tinged wandering, where things feel slightly off but never messy. There are moments that echo the colder edges of Bauhaus, and others that drift in a way fans of Black Country, New Road will recognise, though it never feels like it’s trying to join that conversation too loudly. The jazz touches are subtle, more about mood than solos, nudging tracks sideways rather than showing off. It’s thoughtful, slightly unsettled, and modestly confident — an album that doesn’t demand praise, but earns it by being patient and well put together.

Closer 'Yesteryear' is a softer triumph with hints of 'Eternal Sunshine of a Trumpless Mind'.

The title track and 'Field Song' showcase deft control of tension, balancing intricate instrumentation with vocals that somehow manage to be both precise and slightly off-kilter. 'Black Cauldron', meanwhile, might convince you that perfection has been attained—until the next track politely reminds you that life, like Mon Rovîa and the country it hails from, has endured the hardships of the Liberian civil war. Overall, it’s an album that rewards attention without ever letting itself be pinned down. Might need multiple listens to fully appreciate the clever little musical winks hidden throughout. 'Selling A Vibe' is a decent, middle-of-the-road Cribs album, the sort of record you nod along to on the M62 while fumes of frustration and fleeting intoxication swirl in equal measure. Only a few odd highlights—like ‘A Point Too Hard To Make’ and ‘Looking For The Wrong Guy’—pierce the otherwise plodding march of jangly riffs and slightly off-kilter vocals. There’s a certain Cribtastic charm in the cogs falling off the grooves, little sparks of wit and swagger that remind you why you keep coming back, but you’re never quite certain if it’s the band or the M62 fumes making you dizzy. And seriously, never buy a Tesla; this album has enough reminders that things can go wrong without adding autopilot into the mix. Overall, it’s an album that’s frustrating, occasionally intoxicating, and very much in the comfortable middle lane, like a well-worn leather jacket you pull on knowing it’s going to crease and sag but still feels familiar.

Zerfall is like wading barefoot through Toni Polster’s flooded basement after a week of rain: sticky, unrelenting, and somehow amusing in a miserable sort of way. The album never really thrashes out a proper *Scheiß*; it seeps, dribbles, and occasionally splashes abjectivity across the floorboards. 'Zerfall' and 'Übertritt' glint through the gloom, like pale light on puddles, while 'Ode ans Licht' and 'Reise' crawl along with patient, stubborn grace — rewarding those who dare to linger in the damp. By the time 'Wahrheit Teil II' hits, you’re either soaked or enthralled, sometimes both, and somehow that’s perfectly fine.

Die Instrumente sind wie gezähmte Fluten: Gitarren glitschig, Schlagzeug zurückhaltend, Vocals resigniert und doch bestimmt. Keine großen Ausbrüche, keine lauten Schreie — alles sickert langsam in die Sinne und bleibt kleben, wie eine ungebetene Pfütze im Schuh. Manchmal will man lachen, manchmal möchte man den Kopf schütteln, und beides passiert gleichzeitig. Genau wie ein winterlicher Keller voller Matsch, in dem man nicht weiß, ob man laufen oder stehen bleiben soll.

Am Ende ist Zerfall ein Album für jene, die die kleine, klebrige Absurdität lieben. Es ist mühsam, melancholisch, ein bisschen gemein und doch irgendwie charmant. Ein Tropfen Humor liegt im Schlamm verborgen, und wenn man Glück hat, tritt man hinein und merkt es erst, wenn es zu spät ist.

*With Heaven On Top* is like sloggin’ through a gabbling stream of plastic trees, whittlin’ bark off anything that’ll give, and grumblin’ under your breath about how many more you’ve gotta get through. Bryan’s voice drags along like a tired farmhand after a week of muckin’ out the barn — earnest, scratchy, and stubborn as a mule. ‘Runny Eggs’ and ‘Appetite’ chew on old regrets like a goat on stale hay, while ‘Bad News’ saunters by, lazy as a hound in the sun, testin’ how much sap the trees will surrender before complainin’. Then, just when you think it’s over, you’re thrown into a hoe-down barn dance with your future spouse, reenacting spinster antics in the clumsiest way imaginable, leavin’ you scraped, sticky, and knowin’ full well you wouldn’t do it again. Even the quieter bits — ‘Plastic Cigarette’ or ‘You Can Still Come Home’ — stink faintly of smoke and sawdust, remindin’ you that honesty don’t always come neat. By the end of 25 tracks, you’ve survived the forest, the stream, and the barn dance, and you’re ready to collapse in a chair with a jug of something strong, thankin’ the good Lord it’s over.

Aletheia feels like stepping into a winter forest where the trees have their own sense of timing and a wicked sense of humour. 'The Holy Pale' and 'Aletheia' shimmer and glide, the kind of tracks that make the quiet moments feel deliberate rather than dull. 'Sole Voyage' sails wide and confident, and you can almost hear the band smirking at their own perfection. 'Kanashibari', by contrast, drifts uneasily, reminding you that the woods can be unsettling if you linger too long. Somewhere in that viscous, creaking murk, one can almost picture Andreas Herzog flailing, his mudflaps ripping and rumbling, flinging filthy, fickle fragments far and wide — a perfectly absurd metaphor for the album’s thick, deliberate textures.

Doch dann, wenn 'Touching the Ground' und 'Made Man' ihre Fäden ziehen, merkt man sofort: hier wird nichts dem Zufall überlassen. Präzise Gitarren, eine Rhythmussektion, die genau weiß, wann sie antreiben muss, und Vocals, die warm und unaufgeregt bleiben, auch wenn die Songs kühler wirken. 'In Frozen Dreams' hat eine hypnotische Schwere, als säße man auf einer Eisscholle und wartete, dass sie endlich schmilzt — schön anzusehen, aber nicht zwingend ein Highlight. Man kann fast hören, wie Herzog hektisch hakt, hölzerne Haken seines eigenen Humorhaushalts aus der Matschmasse hebend, während der Song vor sich hin schiebt.

Und am Ende ist es ein Album, das Fans anspruchsvoller, leicht verschrobener Metal-Fans zufriedenstellen wird. Nicht, weil es leicht oder eingängig wäre, sondern weil es Herz hat, selbst wenn es unbequem wird. Und trotzdem bleibt einem ab und zu ein leises Schmunzeln im Gesicht hängen, ob man will oder nicht.

A patient, minimalist wander through gently tugged melodies, like a pastoral slumber whilst plucking the wings off a dead insect. 'Joseph' and 'Samuel' stand out, warm and insistent, while the rest of the album drifts in languid loops that might delight anyone with a taste for subdued soundscapes — or test the patience of anyone expecting a hook. 'Martin' and 'William' stick stubbornly to their own soft repetitions, and yet there’s a strange charm in the discipline.
