I guess you could say I'm an Editors fan, but I never really agreed with the comparisons between them and Joy Division, or between Tom Smith and Ian Curtis. For one thing, Smith can hit notes much more accurately and stay on key than Curtis could. What I didn't know until this album came out is that he really sounds just like Gordon Lightfoot, and on this album he really takes advantage of that. Fans might have hoped for a more rock-oriented record, but it's a very nice album if you like highly personal folk music.
