It’s not easy to make Americana albums with the same consistency as Kevin Morby’s. However, this album, produced by Aaron Dessner, sometimes comes very close to Wilco without being quite as surprising or compelling. Dessner’s arrangements haven’t really done Morby any favors. I miss Morby’s dusty, quirky uniqueness. As if he were Dylan’s grandson. Now everything is very polished and pleasing. And yet it’s still Kevin Morby in every song and every line
